What is the EGIS postdoc forum?

Why are we here?

Being a postdoc is stressful and support networks within universities in general are limited so we decided to take some action and start a forum.

What is the EGIS postdoc forum?

The EGIS postdoc forum has been set up by postdocs within EGIS (School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society) at Heriot-Watt University, in conjunction with senior academic staff, to provide peer support for issues relevant to the postdoc community such as funding, contracts, work-life balance, career planning etc.

To do this we plan to hold events on the last Wednesday of every month, with a couple of different formats, alternating monthly:

LYELL DRINKS: 4.30 – 6 pm in the Lyell Centre – Informal networking for postdocs and early career scientists from EGIS and BGS. (Last Wed in Aug, Oct, Dec, Feb, Apr & Jun.)

LUNCHTIME FORUM: 12 – 1 pm Room tbc – Informal forum talks or discussions covering a variety of topics relevant to the postdoc and early career scientist community. (Last Wed in Sep, Nov, Jan, Mar, May, Jul.)

These events will be open to all postdocs and early career scientists (up to 5 years post PhD) within EGIS and the BGS.

We have also set up this blog as a platform for discussions about relevant topics so please keep reading and if you feel you would like to contribute a blog post about a related issue get in touch.

And Finally …

If you want to stay posted about future events & related topics please follow us on Twitter @HWU_epdf or email egis-postdocforum@hw.ac.uk to be added to our mailing list.
