Our first Lyell Drinks event was held on 31st August and was a resounding success.
Around 30 people, mainly postdocs and early career researchers from Heriot-Watt and the BGS, but also including senior members of staff from across the university, gathered for an hour and a half of chatting, eating and drinking.
From our point of view as the organisers it was very rewarding to see everybody having a good time and making connections, chatting about research or about topics completely unrelated to work. And the sweets and beer didn’t go down too badly either!
We will be having Lyell Drinks every other month and hope that attendance will stay strong and promote collaboration, information sharing and general socialising across the university. All of which are hugely important aspects for successful research and a healthy work-life balance.
Our next event will be:
a lunchtime talk from Dr Gillian Pickup about her less than straightforward career path to date on the 28th September at 12 pm.
